High Tea @ Victoria Rossa English Tea Room

Cracking head what to do at noon hours with your deary and loves one? I'm going to share my high-tea moment that I went weeks ago with boyfie and friends. Girls always fascinate with flowery and girlish thing while boys mostly will focus on their handy gadget; that's why we planned for a high-tea at Victoria Rossa English Tea Room together so that boys won't get bored while we girls soaking in the Victorianism environment (they provide strong wi-fi connection here that made le boys so happy).
I can feel their effort by seeing the menu, but the quantity of menus they have are not sufficient when the place is flooded; I need to mention that they are so caring to stated the preparation time for every food in the menu. Applause.
Even the name card design is so girlish, took it to keep but ended up I left it there. I didn't manage to took the outlook of this restaurant, always fail to do this when I'm at new places. Was planning to take the photo after our high-tea but pouring rain stopped me from that.
Was full house that day, pro is we were lucky to get a private room instead of sharing the crowded place with others, con is we were off in one room, I didn't have chance to snap the interior design, I was shy to do so. From our room we still managed to have little garden view behind the lacy curtain. We were told that it's better to make reservation during weekend, we are not that lucky every time.
Over here, you will be treated like Queen, waitress will try to provide everything you need to make you feel home. Here's the basket for our bags, you don't need to worry food or sauce will drop on your lovely bag anymore, but please be sure it won't drop on you instead.
Victoria Rossa World's Finest English Tea . RM9-RM12 per pot
This is the bane that attract girls, who don't want their high-tea to be so girlish and fine, correct no? Every pot of tea is tagged with the tea name you ordered in case you mixed it up; I heart the black flowery cloth cover and the cup, those cups are seems to be pair up with the color of cover. Only pour the tea after 5 mins, we been told like this and you are allow to refill the hot water once. Saw the "VR" metal tag? I first thought it's some kind of decoration, but I proved myself wrong by open the pot lid...
Ta-dah! It's the container to put the tea leaves so that they won't flow out when you pour the tea, yeah, love tea with origin tea leaves!
Done with the drinks, let's move on to the food aka snacks; they even provide us the flowery tableware.
Old English Afternoon Tea Set (1 pax) . RM36.90
This classy high-tea set seems like a must for girls, a pot of Victoria Rossa English Tea is come together in this set, so for the food is around RM20+. The first layer we have English Tea Toast Almond Cookies and Orange Meringue; the cookies are not that munchy after we put them under the air-con for times, should have taste it first. You guys should know I'm not really like Scone but somehow I'm okay with this, it's not that greasy like others and the strawberry jam is the bonus point. The sandwich seems too normal for us, nothing special but the butter cake really taste good! If you feel to have more, they actually provide a la carte pastry as well.
Old English Cottage Sandwich . RM16.90
This is the larger version of the sandwich we have in the tea set, the only different is they added premium cheese between the bread; you can choose either turkey ham or home blend tuna. The portion is actually too big for one person, sharing is recommended.
Raisin Scone . RM6
We ordered additional scones but this one started to make us feel greasy, I feel that the original one would be the best among all other choices. And, this is the first time of my life seeing the chocolate scone but too sweet for me.
People of the day. Girls were extremely happy with the fine high-tea session and wished for more like every quarterly we must at least have one. But this thought straight away banned by the boys and they said this should be yearly instead. But, let's see how. Laugh

Nostalgie Cafe @ Steward Lane

[Nostalgie Cafe is moved to 15A Rangoon Road since September 2013]

It's another Friday and flyday for me, bought ticket for the night time movie - Ah Boy to Men 2; thanks to Citibank we can now enjoy our Friday with buy 1 free 1 movie ticket day! Before the date, let's see what I had tried in the lovely island this time. Knew Nostalgie Cafe for some times yet I never went there until now, really fed up with the parking problem over the alleys in Georgetown, but I guess this is the trait over here. I still remember the sun was killing us that time but we still clinging to find Nostalgie out.
We were the first diner in Nostagie, the friendly waiter allowed us to choose our table freely, we sat nearby the patio as the ventilation will be better than the indoor. But I wonder why they still installed air-con at these area, kind of wasted no?
Love this spot but the router seems a bit otiose in the photo; if I'm not wrong the item they use to make into lamp is urn, you can see many of them inside the restaurant, a type of design I wonder. Pretty cool isn't it?
If you want to go washroom, you may need to go upstairs, they renovated their washroom well, and I found some drawings there too.
Heart their menu design, the hard cover is well-made just to hold 3-4 pages menu. Yoohoo, scroll down to see what we had there!
Garden Salad with Chicken . RM18
I thought salad will served in small portion, just like a starter to kick start our meal, but I was wrong, this is really a huge portion and can be the main course for someone who is on diet. It is really healthy with all the veggies but over here, they are just too much, laugh! I do not know how I got my willpower to finish this by my own (half of it), most of my friends not really like it tho.
Cheesy Garlic Bread . RM10
The garlic bread was served in 4 pcs, and taste really awesome when you have it while they are still warm. You might not like it if you don't like garlic, they are really generous to give you a lot a lot of garlic; it will be better if the cheese in the same portion too.
Smoked Duck and Avocado Pizza . RM30
I wanted to try their Chicken and Feta Pizza badly but too bad the chef didn't prepare pesto sauce that day, heard that their pesto is good; will need to go again for that. This is also not bad, will be better if the avocado cube served in smaller size; the smoked duck on the other hand is quite amazed me. I feel it's better to have big group of friends come over to share the food, as all of them served in huge portion. Laugh

Places in Cameron Highlands

It's been awhile since my visit to Cameron Highlands, still I have the mood to write about places I went over there; but let's make it a bit quickie, I'll combine places I went in only one post! Yeah, super duper lazy me to intro them one by one, so this would be the best way for me and for you to read them all. Other than the places I'm gonna write about, of course we still went to night market, experienced steamboat session in winter-like weather (raining make the night so chilly), had ice cuppa in Starbucks (for us it's a MUST, laugh) and heart-to-heart talk during the last night in Cameron. Kinda miss the feeling getting away from hustle and bustle of the city.
# Bee Farms
I think we only saw a few of bees flying in the farm, most of them sleep in the bee boxes is it? So damn lazy to fly out in the seem-to-be-rain weather. Been here for only half hour since there is nothing special to attract us, didn't try the honey stick they selling there either.
# Cactus Valley
Saw plenty of cactus in the valley, I like those with small size which wouldn't grow big one, some of the species are quite special which I saw them first time in my life, some are too huge and looks creepy, yucks. At the moment, I felt itchy heart to grab small pots of cactus yet my logos stop me from this as my house got 3 little cactus already.
# Rose Centre
A heaven to most of the girls except me, I'm not a rose lover (except for the champagne color one) even more not a flower lover, I prefer you gave me the money or foodie, me got no romantic cell at all. We tried to climb up to the top of the valley but failed due to our starvation, the height did freak me out although I knew it's pretty safe that wouldn't make me fall.
# BOH Tea Centre
A must-go place in Cameron Highlands! I remember I once went to a tea farm years ago in Cameron which I always thought that is BOH Tea Centre, this time it overthrow my thought, it was not and this is it! Like the scenery, like the way they built the BOH cafe on the top of the tea farm but hate the confined road over there, it's a total insane and I doubt I have the courage to drive there.
# Big Red Strawberry
If you say you didn't see/eat/buy strawberries over here, I think none of us will believe that you actually went to Cameron Highlands before. Bought a few boxes of strawberries, but they seems started to get spoiled on the next day and taste so sour, oh my gosh!
# The Lake House
Last but not least, we did went to The Lake House and The Smoke House but we didn't dine over there, just to take some nice shots and ciao! Both of them actually look the same; we had some hard time setting up our tripod to have this shot, but nice one! Big heart.

The peace

When I was young, my mama used to said I'm the daughter of the Buddha as I'm quite into the Buddhism during my high school; does it means I'm going to be a nun? Oh my gosh, shouldn't be bah, I love the way I am now, laugh. Yet, in this palmy community, searching a peaceful soul is quite important for everyone, this is why temple built for, to look for the peace in self. While visiting for so many cave temples, we found the peace at Kwan Yin Tong; eventho the sun was killing us.

It's time to have self-improvement.

Ling Sen Tong Cave Temple

I only realized I went to this Ling Sen Tong years ago when I was still studying in primary school, with my family and cousins; I did not realize until I saw the statue inside the temple. Laugh. We visited numbers of cave temples that day but I don't think I'll blog them all out here, so will only post those interesting one. Not really know how to intro a cave temple, so let's give photos be the talk here.
Didn't took a lot of photos there, just let my eyes to be the best lens in the world and save those images into my brain, sometimes this work out fine than the real camera. Of course, we still need to have photos in case I  had amnesia in future. Choi choi choi, touch wood.
Sock Keng and yours truly; the best photo I had throughout the trip, the rest of it either I look so pale and sick or I look fat in the photo.
The boys, they post like this in most of the photos and I wonder why. Pity Calvin having gastric on the first day, might probably due to the late dinner he had the night before when we went to Cheng Hwa Seafood Porridge
The fascinating view when we were up to the 2nd floor of the temple. You can actually see Nam Tin Tong located beside this temple.
Ling Sen Tong and Nam Ting Tong are almost inseparable, we don't even realized we already crossed the border until we saw the garden in front with the temple. Photo show the path we that linked these 2 temples together, with trees alongside.
Shadow under the sun, and Jie Xiang's signature post really make me laugh out loud with no reason, why he wanted to post like this? XD

. . . . . . . . . .

Happy Chap Goh Meh to you.

A cuppa at Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong, Ipoh

It's not a wise move to put two girls in a room, ended up we just managed to have 3 hours sleep before the trip; I was like only using my soul to talk with SK, she is kind of owl-person who is now starting to switch back to normal sleeping habit. All of us must be quite tired and over slept as our departure time is 15 minutes late per our schedule, sound so pro over here, laugh! Heading to Ipoh first before Cameron Highlands to unveil the beauty of the city, was trying to visit for new places than the normal one.
Took some time to locate this Sin Yoon Loong kopitiam, after found it we took some time to look for parking again; parked far away from the cafe, we enjoyed strolling under the not-so-hot weather and clicking on the shutter when something caught our eyes. I assumed this kopitiam is quite famous, full house and we had a hard time to grab a seat, be patient if you go there during peak hour.
We were sharing all the breakfast together, while waiting for our drink we had this rice noodle roll (aka chu cheong fun in cantonese). All Malaysians should have know that every state serve chu cheong fun differently; this one is served together with the pickled green chilies, quite special but I'm not really the chu cheong fun lover. I mentioned before, no price stated for some of the upcoming posts.
Ipoh famous with their white coffee, but I didn't ordered that, I had hot milo instead, the drink that accompany me for almost everyday. My daddy always say that the best coffee taste better if they serve in this classic coffee cup, I think most of the uncle will have this thought too. Daddy did try to have coffee in normal glass but the coffee turned out to be quite sour. So, classic is rock!
Toast with kaya and butter is definitely the preferred breakfast joint in those Chinese kopitiam, I think this should be two set of toast.
Toast without egg is like a tree without its leaves, and normally you have heard people order like this: Roti egg 1 set, it means 1 set of toast and 1 set of egg. Something special about Sin Yoon Loong is they let us to poke the egg ourselves, I like it!
Ah-ha, the special Caramal Custard (RM2.20) in the cafe, I think this is quite famous in Ipoh as well; I posted this photo in Instagram and straight away my friend knew I was at Ipoh that time. Or only Ipoh serve this during breakfast hour? Laugh. The caramel custard served in cold and well flavored, it's really not too sweet, thumb up indeed.
Promised ourselves to have a full and burpie breakfast before we off to conquer some of the caves in Ipoh, le journey to be continued...

Peri-Peri of my eyes

Still remember that I once blog-ed about the Peri-vileges card I got from Nando's? If you missed that, you can read it here. I like to have little warm thingy waiting me home to surprise me, I got one from Nando's today; the late valentines wishes from them and one FOC Nando's Peri-Peri Sauce if dine-in at the restaurant before 28th Feb, means I still have only 8 days to redeem it. Why don't they send this ahead before the Valentine's Day? Laugh. Still, thank you for the postcard-like voucher, heart it to the max!
I don't think I'll flash this card upon ordering, just have a thought to keep this to myself, couldn't resist to pretty little thingy. Aww ♥

Oh gosh, another trip to Langkawi with family, just a week from now!

Cheng Hwa Seafood Porridge @ Nibong Tebal

It's good to have a group of friends off to travel together, sometimes it's not about the place but the people right? So the Four Leaf Clover (group name who consist of me, Calvin, Sock Keng and Jie Xiang) decided to have a short trip to Cameron Highlands early of the year; we were planning for Ipoh one day trip at first. Since all of them staying at main land, so I need to travel in dark (laugh!) to SK's house and we made up our mind to have sinfully supper as a kick-start for our foodie trip. What's Nibong Tebal best with? Despite of their weekend night market which I never been before, the next will be the Seafood Porridge I guess.
We reached Cheng Hwa Seafood Porridge around 11.30pm where people normally prepare themselves to bed already. But guess what, this is the dinner for Calvin, by this you will know how he get his gastric; dinner, dinnuh seriously?!
Photo while waiting for the food served. We were suppose to discuss our trip while waiting but we ended up talking crap throughout the supper session. We simply can't focus on the same thing for hours, we all trying to dig more stories, like the say: sharing is caring mah.
Seafood Porridge (4 pax) . RM62
Ta-dah! This is 4 pax portion of seafood porridge which consist only crab I think, and this one we added fish meat as well so that we wouldn't feel humdrum. You can actually order the porridge per person and choose the ingredients you like, they have crab, fish, prawn, minced pork meat and frog; unless you want them all then you can order a big one to share like us.
Another closer shot on the seafood porridge, I wonder why they want to put so much of veggies on top; we couldn't found the fish!
Look at the crab tongs, so fatty right? Frankly speaking, this crab is much fresher if compare with Tak Fok Seafood Restaurant's one; all their crabs are quite huge = a lot of crab meat! The chef help to clout the crab for us which is ease for us, the bad thing over here is the tiny crab shells might drop inside the porridge, I ate some of them but of course I did spat them out. I couldn't fully enjoyed the crab eating session with that, I need to check for the crab shells before I swallow the whole thing.
You guys wonder where is the fish? The brown thingy inside the bowl is that! They are not stingy on giving so much crabs for us (okay, we paid for it), until we almost finished the porridge, there were still have some crabs to grab. This called sinfully supper of the night.

Hello my dearies, it's the time for Chinese now. I think most of the people are busy-ing with the preparation for CNY reunion dinner, so am I. Yet, I snatch a moment of leisure to update my bloggie first in case my readers have nothing to read with (I think too much? Laugh!). Anyway, there are plenty of posts awaiting to be posted up, please be patient and I have some to-do-items on hand which I'm still procrastinating until now. I should finished them off during this CNY break; last but not least, Happy Chinese New Year to you!
