When my friends ask me which restaurant to dine with affordable price, I read some review and give them a list to chose from; AHMO is always in the list. It's a shame that I never been here but keep recommend my friends to come over, so I found a time and decided to give it a try, like finally! It's located at Irrawaddi Road but do not worry about the parking space (it's hard to get a parking whenever I dine in Harvest Inn) as they do provide a private parking. If you know Hokkien, the restaurant name AHMO is with a meaning, I view their website and it goes like this:
AHMO is an epithet describing Westerner or the West in Chinese Hokkien dialect. It literally means red hair and the usage is similar to the Japanese word Kōmō or Cantonese term Gweilo. In general, local Hokkien people often used the term Ang Mo to distinguish whatever originates from the West. Some examples are Ang Mo Lang (Westerner), Ang Mo Mia (Western name), Ang Mo Kio (Red Tomato) and Ang Mo Chiak (Western Cuisine).
It's separate to indoor and outdoor dining area, I thought it would be better to dine indoor unless you wish to get mosquito bite. Scroll down for more photos before I hit you with the food photos:
Belly Berry . RM8.90
AHMO provides a list of mixed fruits smoothies and I got the belly berry which consist of apple and strawberry, it's more like a juice than smoothies for me as it's quite watery. I got some orange taste on the first sip (might come from the previous blend) and slowly with the apple taste, it's quite refreshing and not sour even it mixed with strawberries.
Italian Bruschetta . RM9.90
I like to have some small bites before the main course and they recommended Escargots at first which I dare not to try yet, maybe I have the gut to try it next time. So we got ourselves the Italian Bruschetta, the toasted garlic baguette (aka French loaf) is topped with marinated tomato in Italian herbs. I like this appetizer as the tomatoes are so fresh and savoury, the side greens which come along is fresh as well. Oh yeah, good news for vegan as they provide vegetarian food in their menu.
Teriyaki Chicken . RM15.90
I'm quite impressed with this as the chicken is not over-cooked but I personally thought the teriyaki sauce is a little bit too much over here. The vegetables here are not fully cook so I left some untouched till the end, on the other hand the potato salad is tasty if you have it while it's still warm. Overall it's quite good so I think I would give it another try on my next visit.
Mixed Grilled Seafood . RM22.90
I like this the most, get to have different types of seafood in a plate. The sides are the same with teriyaki chicken and come together with prawns, salmon, dory fish and squid. I expected the slices of squid but it turn out to be baby octopus when they served this to me, it seems to be quite weird to mix with those seafood. Thumb up to their prawn and salmon, the sauce is awesome but I do not know what was that. Laugh.
Wanted to go back again for their lunch set as it's worth till drop, just add another RM7.90 to your main course to get soup of the day and a beverage. Till then.
