No Signboard Seafood . Singapore

Told you, it's about food so if you are in hungry mode please do not continue this post, it might make you crave for food; I shouldn't post this in this hour as well, it makes me crave for seafood, especially crabs! Before the trip, we really work hard to search for nice food in this country, we are the one who willing to spend money on food more than anything else; this trip is said to be worthwhile after we had the nice luncheon in No Signboard Seafood
No Signboard Seafood have around 6 branches in Singapore, the one we went is at Geylang which is just 5 mins walk from our hotel; we planned to have a shower and rest after the lunch. There were not much diners when we were there, maybe it was just open or most of the people choose to have seafood at night time, so that they can slowly enjoy the seafood whole night long. There are 2 partition in the restaurant, one is outdoor another one is indoor with air-con supply; all of us of course went to the latter one.
Sin-Chew Mee Hoon | $15
I just roughly state the price of the mee hoon as different portion are with different price, moreover we ordered another plate of this since this portion can't fulfilled us. Why we don't want to order another dish than this? Because it taste so good that we still stick to the same dish after we finished the first place. I'm not really like mee hoon as I always feel it is quite dry without any sauce, but this is different, it wouldn't too dry and it's up to my liking.
Crispy Cereal Prawn | $30
Wouldn't want to have only crab, so we order another seafood which is prawn, not bad tho and the prawns are so fresh. If you did order other seafood than crab, you should finish the seafood first before the waitress serve you the crab, because the taste of this prawn become so tasteless after we had our crab. The crispy cereal are so much until we couldn't finish, kind of waste I think.
Chilli Crab | $60/kg
Fried Buns (Man Tou) | $0.50/ea
You can see that I keep mention crab in this post, but if you come here without order the crab, is it kind of weird right? So we order their signature chilli crab (you can order black pepper crab if you like, one of their signature as well) and the fried buns together as the fried buns really go well with the tomato and chilli-based sauce. The sauce are too much we couldn't finish it, if you are a big eater, you may order more fried buns to clear the sauce; without the buns it will make you feel a bit spicy.
Wonder how big is the crab? Look at the claw in the photo, my thumb is only around 20% of the claw, so huge! The amount of fresh crab meat we can get from the claw are so much and juicy; this is the food that I missed the most throughout the trip, will definitely go back again because of this!
Before they served you the food, they will first served you soy sauce and one bowl of water with lime inside, we do not know what's that until I asked the waitress. She told us that we will get the strong crab smell on our hands after the meal, the smell can only be removed by using the lime. We tried, and it did work!

A walk after drip-drop

You are a fish, a fish that can bring water to places wherever you go, sometimes. Friends tend to say this to me when I hang out with them as I brought rain together with me, but why I can't have rain when I feel hot? So this statement doesn't make any sense lol. Just a short prologue to tell you that rain followed me to Singapore and it started to pour on the city after our visit to China Town.
We had this before the rain, the famous ice cream sandwich that you can choose either bread or waffle biscuits to sandwich the ice cream block with your choice of flavor. Obviously I had the mint chocolate chips and the uncle is kind enough to give us big portion of ice cream, it started to melt before we can finished the ice cream; so I munched it with high speed and rain started to pour on us ruthlessly, we had no choice but to stay in Raffles Hospital until the rain stop. Why Raffles Hospital? Because the place we were about to go next is just a street away from the hospital, it is a good spot for us since we manage to access their free Wi-Fi.

After the rain, we continue our journey to Haji Lane and Arab Street, places that I looking forward so long when we started to plan on this trip. I'm the kind of people that easily amazed by tiny little thing, or artsy kind of stuff or building; so these places are just my cup of tea. Each of the shop along the lane/street is so cool with their own design and make the lane/street so colorful. While taking photos along the street, I need to control my desire to go in each shop-lot as I might end up with empty wallet to get all the items I love.
Saw this hearty potted plant in front of a restaurant, quite convenient right? If they want some basil leave to top on your spaghetti or risotto, they just need to pluck from here; so fresh!
Went to a shop named Dulcetfig where vintage meets the modern girl, the slogan said. Told you I never plan to go in a shop-lot but the cat (who wear a garland flag on its neck) sit in front of the shop, yawning and staring on us made me feel to step inside the shop and find out what the store is all about. They sell apparels, shoes, bag, accessories and stuffs that you definitely feel to get if you are a girl; so I bought some items there, one of it is passport cover, I have a thing to passport holder/cover, forgive me please.

Ps: next up is about food again.

China Town . Singapore

After finished our breakfast at Ya Kun, we went to China Town to experience the joyful atmosphere, before that we went to money changer to change RM to SGD as I thought I might get some souvenirs there; their rate surely better than ours in Malaysia. I had bad hair days throughout the trip as I washed my hair if I've the chance to go back our hotel, no idea why I sweat like a boss and it really affect my mood (and hair); whenever I sweat during my bad hair day, my hair get affected and started to become frizzy, it means no nice photo of me when I'm sweat! Why leng lui (pretty ladies in Cantonese) never sweat or I should say they sweat elegantly, you can't even tell from the photo they are sweating on that shot; somemore they can wear long sleeve or multi-layer clothes to bring out the fashion sense in them. From here, I know I can't be a leng lui whenever I'm expose under the hot sun, I'm so screwed
Enough complain, let's get back to our topic of this post - the China Town. It was started to get cloudy (look at the dark clouds in the photos) but still I sweat like no body business, it didn't help much tho. It was quite good to walk along the street, seeing thing I hardly see in my island and I remember we helped some kids to complete their survey forms from school. Food is so tempting but I can't digest any of it after the breakfast, maybe we can consider to have breakfast in China Town next time.
Most of the shops selling the same thing with same price, so I just shopped in one shop and bought everything I want there. I have a thing with postcard, so I got myself some postcards but didn't send it back from Singapore, grrrr. We didn't have much time to walk around as we have tight schedule to follow from place to place, will def go back again if I have chance. Till then.

Writing the Singapore post make me feel to go back again.

A toast at Ya Kun Kaya Toast . Singapore

Yeah, I'm going to write my second day in Singapore and this post is about food again, sometimes I do read back my old posts and hardly find thing other than food; I'm not a food blogger tho, just feel to share food (thing) I had and who knows you might feel interested on that. Before my legs feel better, we continued our journey with more walking and looked for a breakfast place.
We planned to have some local breakfast (I'm going to have breakfast in Wild Honey on my next visit to Singapore, tee-hee heard that their egg benedict is good!) which you can easily find in most of the shopping malls or even in Changi airport - Ya Kun Kaya Toast. We went to the branch at Bugis Junction and no kidding quite many people in the shop even it was early in the morning. Order can be made at their counter, since it was our first time there, we took some times to glance through their menu that set at the counter, the aunty is so nice to explain what we will get in the value set meal.
Set A - Kaya Toast with Butter Set | $4.60
Looks tempting right? The Set A is come with 2 slices of kaya toast with butter, 2 soft-boiled eggs and one beverage, I do not have coffee in the morning, so hot tea will be perfect for me. I like the yolks running in the whites, added some soy sauce, but weird huh why the color of soy sauce is so dark compare to ours? and here goes the perfect soft-boiled egg for breakfast. It's a perfect eggs to dip your toast before you have a bite too, but frankly speaking I prefer the fluffy bread (like the one in Toh Soon Cafe) compare to brown crispy bread. The walking journey continued after the good breakfast, here we go to...

Busy Bodhi Cafe

It's started to rain after few weeks we suffer from the hot and hazy weather, the rain chase away the haze. No more hot weather and I can put on my blanket during my sleep, I used to be a person that put on blanket even it's not cold but I kind of abandon my blanket last few months, damn hot. I know I haven't finish my Singapore posts (I think only 4-5 more to be posted here, nothing much on my last day), but I feel to write something else or something new to me.
Before I started, I want to share some grandmother stories on how this post come along. You know, Georgetown Festival 2014 is coming real soon and there is a campaign so call GTFWORD, some kind of alphabet hunting around the heritage area; entrance ticket for some GTF show will be given away to those lucky one who found the word (fixed by GTF with weekly basis), you may read here for details. I thought that was an easy task and wanted to get the alphabet hunt but I only manage to get 3 out of 26 alphabets. I almost walked the whole area but I think I might missed some hidden corner, better luck this week.
I missed the alphabets, but I found a new hidden gem - Busy Bodhi Cafe around the heritage area, not really hidden as it is actually located at one of the mural that drawn by Ernest Zacharevic. Quite a good spot to have small cafe nearby the mural, people tend to look into the cafe after photo session with the mural; they might go in and give it a try after few more glances.
For God sake, there was no one when we were there and I pretty love that kind of situation, it means I can walk around the place without bother anyone else, not good to make people feel annoy when they enjoying their moment there right. There are only 4-5 tables available in the cafe, don't complain it is too small as it would be a perfect stopover place if you feel tired after strolling around the area. You know what attract me to go in? It's the umbrellas! When I browse Facebook and I saw people sharing the photos and I promise myself that I need to pay a visit and I did it the next day, efficient no? Empire Damansara has the floating umbrella which photography is prohibited unless you ask permission from the management, we do have it now in Busy Bodhi Cafe.
The cafe is not big, but I still took some times to look around and take some nice photos; they decorate the place with some old school thingy which I heart so much. Oh yea, don't expect air-conditioning here but they do have big fan blowing in the cafe, even the sun was so hot out there, I can't feel that either, the umbrella and trees did some magic too.
"Don't play Candy Crush, play Can-Crush!". Saw the cute poster near the bar table, the waiter is kind enough to invite us to play the that and keep top up the empty can when he saw the quantity of can is less than two. The secret to successfully crush a can is Hit-It-Fast, I tend to play it gently at first as I scare I'll spoil the thing. A big biscuit tin is prepared to put the crushed can.
Peach Fizz + Mango Fizz | RM13/ea
Umbrella seems to be a signature to the cafe, you will get your beverage with a paper umbrella on top. As you can read from the menu, there are not much snack available in the cafe, but I feel the beverages are more than enough. I want to try their Heavenly Clouds next time, it is actually an ice cream topped with candy floss, I just couldn't had it that time as ice cream make me feel thirstier; so I got myself the fizz beverages under the Thirst Quenchers column.
Ended this post with my blurry photo, I look good when the camera didn't focus on me lol, it was too hot so I tied up my hair, if not it would turn to be a messy grass, how to solve my dry and fizzy hair issue? Laugh.
Ps: no Wi-Fi available in the cafe, as they support "Disconnect to Connect" campaign.
