[ Penang ] What The Duck Restaurant

Been to What The Duck restaurant with BenDan on Friday noon some days ago,
we know the existing of this restaurant but never plan to visit there until we ran out of idea where to have our lunch.
As you can see, we are cutting down the cafe/restaurant hunting these day to save more for our future.
The name What The Duck is surely a catchy and playful one, which easily remember by people.
The restaurant served Asian and Western delights, with duck meat as the main ingredient.
People who don't like duck meat are also welcome here as they do have other dishes that suit your taste!
They did mentioned the preparation time for some dishes on the menu, be patient on that,
after-all: good food need to wait.
Quack Chowder | RM9
Under the soup selection, 3 out of 5 are cook with duck meat, they are really putting effort on this.
Since we are here to have duck feast, rather than choosing the normal soup that can also try at other places, we opt for the Quack Chowder which is also one of the chef recommendation.
The quack chowder is topped with bread stick and a block of duck meat, finished with a drip of cream and olive oil.
The chowder is very thick and creamy, they are very generous on putting slices of duck meat in the chowder,
you can get to taste it every month you have.
Pot Roast Duck with Red Wine and Mushroom | RM21.90
The way they served every food is very delicate, just like what we will have at fine dining restaurant.
With the affordable price like this, they surely get a big win compare to others.
The pot roast duck is served with greens, mash potato and the mixture of wine and mushroom gravy (I think so).
The duck leg is perfectly cook until the meat is tender, easily cut with a touch of fork and knife;
the duck meat is so soft and juicy at the same time, the portion is just nice to satisfy us.
WTD Duck Confit | RM21.90
One of the chef's signature, the duck confit is served with greens, kumara mash potato and roasted garlic.
The kumara here means sweet potato, this explained the color of mash potato, taste slightly sweeter than normal mash.
This is our first time to have duck confit, it seasoned with a great amount of spices that enhance the taste.
The duck leg is crispy at the outside, and juicy at the inside!
We wish to have more roasted garlic, they taste so good together with the duck confit.
We were too full to try their dessert, I heard their Sizzling Brownies is awesome as well.
The set lunch menu is available on our visit, inclusive of soup of the day, main course and beverage, absolutely worth it,
but we opt for a-la carte menu that day.

[ Penang ] Semi-Buffet Breakfast | 17 Kelawei

[ This restaurant had been closed its door to public ]
Normally we won't wake up early in the morning on weekend due to the hectic weekdays we had.
We forced ourselves to wake up earlier on one fine Sunday after we came across there is
a restaurant that offer semi-buffet Western style breakfast; free flow of coffee, juice and breads!
17 Kelawei is located just right in front of Gurney Tower or a few doors away from UOB Bank on the same road.
We were there 5 minutes before their business hours but the staffs did invited us to our seats
while they were still working hard to get the breads ready.
Oh yeah, live band is available even during breakfast hour but they only started to install the instruments on the time we were about to leave.
The whole interior design give you a kind of homey feel,
they even have lots of sofa for diners to lean while having a cuppa but I feel it's quite hard for us to dine at sofa area.
There are 2 kind of breakfast options:
Breakfast Set that charged RM15.90 for each item and Brekfast Menu that charged RM25.90 for each item.
All items are entitled for free-flow semi-buffet though this ain't mention on Breakfast Menu.
I'm not a coffee person, and I got myself an bottomless orange juice, refill like a boss!
There are a few choices on the bread: plain bread, wholemeal bread, batard bread and muesli bread on the day we went.
Homemade butter, apple jam and pineapple jam are available.
We only managed to finish 2 rounds of breads with our own breakfast set, applause for those who can refill like 3-4 rounds.
It will be good if the staff of 17 Kelawei can get rid of the flies at the free-flow corner.
Scottish Breakfast | RM25.90
Wanted to go for Big Breakfast at first, but I saw there's scones in that set; so I had Scottish Breakfast instead.
Yet, the toasted baguette is not shown up on my plate like what stated on the menu, I did not make a noise on that as we toasted way too much of breads on our own.
Scrambled egg, grilled ham, bacon, greens and grilled tomato are normal, the hash brown is good.
Something I don't like is the given buttered fried mushroom is too little in size and quantity,
it's only two pieces in my plate with 20 cents size!
Egg Benedict | RM25.90
The Egg Benedict is off-menu, BenDan googled it before we were here so he ordered this.
They didn't use English Muffin on this, but it's served with Scone!
There is smoked salmon in between of poached egg and scone, the Hollandaise sauce given is way too less.
We don't really like scone, and we feel that it's weird to have salty food mixed with sweet scone,
we decided to drop the scone after a few bites on this.
The sides are same like Scottish Breakfast, just the ham changed to baked beans.
Overall, the price is quite tempting with the semi-buffet option with every breakfast set.
The quality of food need to be improved and maintained.
I do not know about their lunch and dinner as we were only here for their breakfast.
But we do enjoy ourselves having breakfast in that sweet environment.

[ Penang ] Projek Nasi Lemak | Dato Keramat

Will you have a day that you feel to have our proud local food - Nasi Lemak so badly? I did, sometimes.
Nasi Lemak is so famous in our country as you can see nasi lemak stall or specialists mushrooming in the town.
There is this newly opened restaurant - Projek Nasi Lemak that worth discuss by Penangites;
unlike the ordinary nasi lemak, they offer over a wide variety of add-ons!
Warn you ahead, parking is a problem at this area due to limited parking available in front of the restaurant.
Projek Nasi Lemak apply the fast food concept on their ordering process for the food part;
while the staff will get your beverage order once you have your seats.
There are total of five combination of nasi lemak available in the restaurant:
Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken, Fried Squid, Fried Fish, Boiled Egg and Curry Prawn.
Add-on is also available from their a la carte menu, just pick get the basic nasi lemak and add-on whatever you like.
Coconut Shake | RM4 . Teh Volcano Hijau | RM3.50
In the stuffy environment (no air-conditional available in the restaurant), the cold beverages did a good job to chill us.
The coconut shake is pretty good as it has coconut fresh in it and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
We were quite curious on the Volcano beverages that stated in the menu,
so we ordered the one with green tea; the foam is outflow from the cup when it is served, which fit the name well.
The tea scent is strong and I quite like it.
Set A - Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken | RM8.50
Same like any other nasi lemak, serving of salted peanuts, anchovies, cucumber and boiled egg is still present,
the only thing that differ here is the blue-hue of rice that resulting from using the butterfly pea flower.
I was so excited to try their rice after seeing all the photos
but it is quite tasteless without the help of sambal and curry, you can merely taste the coconut milk in it.
This set comes with a big piece of fried chicken thigh, crispy at the outer layer with tender meat!
Set B - Nasi Lemak with Fried Squid | RM13
The fried squid is served separately from the rice as the squid is gigantic in size.
There are different types of sambal and curry served on the nasi lemak to enhance the taste of the rice and squid.
Cutter is served as well whenever you get the Set B, for you to cut the fried squid in smaller size.
The squid is quite crispy outside and aromatic, however it's too chewy for me and I need to chew hard before devour.
Still I think I will order this on my next visit as the strong aromatic of squid keep ghosting me.

[ Penang ] KyoChon 1991 Korean Fried Chicken | G Hotel

Finally put an end for my Bangkok post, I had been dragged it for so long and before my next trip I'm going to share some new restaurants that I tried throughout the months.
I've heard / seen about KyoChon 1991 during my trip to Kuala Lumpur but I've never gotten to try it
until it opened its door to Penangites at G Hotel (right next to the al-fresco zone of Gurney Plaza) and the Korean drama
"My Love from the Star" just gave me a kick to try this place!
We went to KyoChon for early dinner after 2-3 weeks of their opening, the crowd is exaggerating;
it was only 6pm sharp (on Friday) but the indoor is fulled and diners are started to fill up the al-fresco dining area.
We told the staff that we wanted the indoor seats (we can't stand the heat)
and we only waited 5 minutes to get it.
The indoor area is not very spacious, and if you are okay with the outdoorsy environment, you can get al-fresco dining area without any wait.
KyoChon is famous with their Korean fried chicken and it comes in four flavors for your choice:
Soy Garlic, Red Pepper, Honey and Salsal sauce.
You can make it in complete meal by choosing the combo size and pick any upgrades that available.
The combo meal if definitely worth the price!
Other than the Korean fried chicken, they also provide a la carte menu such as Bulgogi, Kimchi soup, Tteokbokki and etc.
For more details, you may view the KyoChon's menu over here.
The staff served us a bowl of banchan (to be exact, pickles) after we placed the order;
wet tissues and plastic gloves were not served like what mentioned by blogger, it will be served upon request.
The choice of beverages in combo meal are either Sparkling Yuza Fruit Tea or Sparkling Plum Fruit Tea,
we got it one each but the plum fruit tea is a little bit too sour for me, it tastes better after the ice melted.
Wingette and Drummette (12 pcs) | RM26.90 and Combo Meal M Size | RM11
Out of four flavors,
you can mix Soy Garlic and Red Pepper for your fried chicken as the price for both flavors are the same;
we were so tempted to have Honey flavor but we knew we can't finish it.
Wingette and Drummette here means chicken wings, 12 pcs is consists of 3 pairs of chicken wings.
If you are not chicken wings lover, you can get drumstick or whole chicken.
we upgraded our steam rice in combo meal to Kimchi Fried Rice with Egg by add-on RM7 for each rice.
The Combo Meal M Size is also comes with clear soups and salads.
By comparing both flavors of the fried chicken, I preferred Soy Garlic flavor as the Red Pepper flavor is quite spicy,
I still can stand the spiciness but my mouth get numb and burning if I get it more.
I like the Soy Garlic as it tasted a little salty but up to my liking, the flavors were bold although not much flesh available.
Something I like about their Korean fried chicken is they aren't greasy at all!
The Kimchi Fried Rice is just nice, nothing to complain about it, we felt to have more after finished our portion.

The price for KyoChon can be quite hefty, in return you will get high quality food and good service,
it's quite worth it for me and I'll definitely come back for the other flavors!

Katsu Toji Set | 245

Kurobuta Steak & Salmon Teriyaki Set | 310

Yaki Gyoza | 115
比起商场里的Fuji(我们过后去合艾的时候有去Fuji吃多一次),感觉上机场里的Fuji水准可能没那么好,
