[ Penang ] Restaurant Markus @ Cantonment Road

Had our Valentine's Day celebration a week after the actual day,
BenDan planned it and gave me a surprise (here means bringing me to a fine restaurant) which is so-not-him!
Been passing through Restaurant Markus for months whenever we wanted to go Gurney area,
it's a Italian semi-fine dining restaurant that opened its door one year ago.
Not really like the fine dining environment, but we went to a few semi-fine dining restaurants,
we are still okay with it, not so 'formal' I would say.
The diners were not much during the night we visited,
the waiter lead us to our seats on second floor (BenDan made reservation earlier), that's why I didn't have the ground floor environment photos in this post.
The interior is kind of minimalist, nothing fancy is putting in the second floor except for the chandelier.
Acqua Panna or San Pellegrino sparkling water will be served, but we requested normal drinking water.
They also have a wine cellar next to our seats!
House Wine (White) | RM24 per glass
Since it was to celebrate our Vday, so we thought wine is a must during dining? Haha.
We can't really finish a bottle of wine by only two of us, so we just order their house wine which the price is quite affordable.
Don't really like to have red wine that day, so we go for the white one.
Complimentary Focaccia bread with balsamic olive oil was served before our main dishes come.
Zuppetta Di Zucca Tarfufata | RM20
Don't really like to have salad as our starter so we ordered soup instead, for sharing.
It's nothing like the normal pumpkin soup but it's a creamy and thick pumpkin veloute
topped with crispy truffle parmesan.
Saute wild mushroom is added into the soup to enhance the taste.
We are quite into pumpkin soup but we hardly find a good one until this, it is up to our liking!
Risotto Allo Zafferano Con Gamberi E Calamari | RM32
It's a saffron risotto deglazed with white wine, saute prawns, squid, green asparagus and Le Mignon olive oil.
In short, it's quite similar to seafood risotto in saffron.
The risotto is served without the cheese sprinkle on top, they will topped for you on the top
upon your request using the cheese slicer, the same goes to pepper.
The seafood here are very fresh and the risotto rice is well cooked, the final texture is soft,
but has a slight chew at the center of each grain.
Linguine Al Granchio | RM30
There are two sizes available for pasta, piccolo and normal up to your choice, obviously we went for normal.
The linguine is cooked with fresh crab meat, sweet basil, vodka
and vine-ripened tomatoes in light pink sauce.
They are very generous in giving the fresh crab meat, the ratio of crab meat to linguine seems to be 1:1 here!
For the pasta type, I can accept all types except for angel hair, I don't like the texture of angel hair, I feel it thin like bihun.
With linguine, the texture of this dish seems perfectly match!
It worth a thumb up here.
